- Choose a book that highlights a comprehension strategy your students need.
- Choose text that is an example of good literature. (Mentor Texts)
- Read the book a few times before you read it to the class - prepare questions/talking points.
- Introduce the comprehension strategy.
- Make predictions based on the cover.
- Model using "think-alouds" that align with the comprehension strategy. Model 2 "think-alouds" before students turn and talk.
- Turn and Talk: choose partners strategically, have a signal for ending the "talk," give a specific point to discuss, highlight 1 or 2 answers you heard to model a good answer
- Stop and Jot - Journal writing
